All About Me

By now, you probably know that my name is Callie.  I spent the majority of my summer working, as I'm sure many of you who are reading this, did.  But lets face it, thats boring.  Any free time i have i try to spend with my friends and family.  I love to go to the beach and luckily for me, I have a few friends who own beach homes.  My family owns six horses that we keep on our property, so I ride whenever i have free time.  It's a nice way to relax and break away from the monotony of the real world.  Most summer's my grandparents buy a dock space for their boat at Raystown Lake; I spend a lot of time up there laying out and waterskiing.  In the colder months, I can be found on the slopes.  I learned to ski when i was very young and picked up snowboarding six or seven years ago and have been hooked since.

But now its back to business, literally.  I'm a student of the College of Business with a concentration in Marketing.  I have yet to declare a minor, so i guess that means i have some thinking to do.  This semester Intro to Lit. is my only non-business related class.

That being said, I feel that this class will spice up my Tuesdays and Thursdays a little.  I had Dr. Mortimore as a freshmen for WIFYS and appreciated the way she taught (not just speaking at you for an hour and fifteen minutes).  I enjoy reading and find other's diversified opinions enlightening.

I read a decent amount of books this summer while laying on the beach.  Most were by one of my favorite authors Jodi Picoult.  The last book i read was one of hers' as well:  Songs of the Humpback Whale.   My bestfriend and I go to Barnes and Noble to buy books, then switch after we've read them.  However, we have similar taste; admittedly, i didn't read much of a variety.

I'm just as guilty as the next person, I get sucked into the cult of popular culture.  As much as teen mom and jersey shore annoy me; i find myself watching reality TV if I'm bored and nothing else is on.  I can say with much conviction that I don't play video games at all, ever!  First of all, I'm terrible at them and I see no point.  I'm sure someone else could argue the same about activities i enjoy though.  I listen to mostly country music, regardless of it's popularity.

Literature is the study and analysis of published works.  It can describe people, the time in which they lived, where they lived and the customs of the time period.  In a way, it seems like a looking glass, you can imagine what it is like to be somewhere else, another place and another time.  My experiences with Literature are limited; mainly to the reading i do on my own, the curriculum of my high school and the reading I did last year in WIFYS.

Thanks for reading! :)
